At least 2 dead, 26 injured in Blast in Lahore Anarkali Today in Pan Mandi in Lahore’s Anarkali area, officials said on Thursday.
Earlier, a police spokesperson said three persons were killed in the blast, but Lahore Capital City Police Officer spokesperson Mubashir Hussain later confirmed two casualties.

Police spokesperson Rana Arif also told Dawn.com that the blast was caused by a bomb “planted” in a motorcycle but did not provide further details.

Speaking to reporters at the scene of the incident, Lahore Police DIG Operations Abid Khan said that the impact of the Blast in Lahore Anarkali Today had left behind a crater which suggested that it was caused by a bomb.

“Our technical team is collecting evidence. We will reach a conclusion on the basis of their analysis,” he said.
Lahore Deputy Commissioner Umer Sher Chattha, meanwhile, said that the blast took place in the last lane of Anarkali bazaar, close to Circular Road. He said the explosive material was planted in a motorcycle which was parked outside a bank in the area.
He also confirmed that three people had died in the incident, adding that the nature of the blast would be determined by the Forensic Science Agency, the Safe City Authority and the bomb disposal squad.

The DC said that two of the injured were in critical condition while the wounded were being treated at Mayo Hospital.
Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar also took notice of the incident and directed the inspector general of police to submit a report in this regard. He also directed officials to provide the injured with the best possible medical facilities.
In a separate statement, Buzdar condemned the Blast in Lahore Anarkali Today and said that those responsible would be arrested and justice would be ensured. “This incident is aimed at sabotaging the atmosphere of law and order. Those responsible for the blast will not be able to escape the clutches of the law,” he said.
IG Punjab submits preliminary investigation report
According to the preliminary investigation report of the blast, which has been submitted by the Inspector-General of Punjab to CM Punjab, the explosion was carried out with the help of a planted device.
Per details, a 1.5-kilogramme explosive material was used which damaged a building and eight motorcycles.

The report mentioned that the Blast in Lahore Anarkali Today was heard at 1:40pm; while a call from an unknown number was received at 1:44pm informing the authorities that a blast has been heard in Lahore’s Anarkali area after which the police and rescue officials rushed to the place of incident.
‘Threat of terrorism’
Federal Minister for Interior Sheikh Rasheed told Geo News that there was a “threat of terrorism”.
“I am going [to the area] and will collect more information; once I have more updates, I will let [people] know.”
Meanwhile, Lahore deputy inspector-general of operations, Dr Muhammad Abid Khan, had said that no security alert had been issued.

The interior minister, shedding light on other issues, told journalists that the ceasefire between the government and the banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has come to an end, adding that a red alert has been issued for five other major cities across Pakistan.
PM summons report
Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the incident and said that precious lives had been lost due to the Blast in Lahore Anarkali Today. He instructed the authorities to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured.
The premier also asked the Punjab government to submit a report on the blast.
Politicians, ministers express sorrow
President Dr Arif Alvi extended his condolences to the victims of the Blast in Lahore Anarkali Today and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
“May Allah have mercy on the families and Pakistan,” she said.
JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman extended his condolences to the families of those killed in the Blast in Lahore Anarkali Today but blamed the government for the incident.
“The incident seems to be a conspiracy towards making the country unstable again. The federal and provincial governments have failed to stop these incidents from happening and maintain law and order to ensure the safety of the citizens,” he said.
