Cricket South Africa (CSA) has barred South African players from participating in the Pakistan Super League season because of a domestic tournament.
Keeping the COVID-19 situation in mind, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) allowed the PSL franchises to select two more additional players to their already existing 18-member squad.

Franchises also had the provision of opting one overseas player from the two allocated additional players. The South African players were likely to be included in the mini-draft as the likes of Quinton de Kock, David Miller, Tabraiz Shamsi and Rassie van der Dussen were initially part of the list, from which franchises could select their choice.

According to a report by Cricket Pakistan, CSA has instructed the players to focus on 4-day domestic cricket instead of flying to Pakistan for the seventh edition of PSL.
As the report further mentions, the franchises will now have to pick from the remaining players in the list that was drawn up for the first draft which took place on December 18.
PSL 7 to begin on January 27
Jason Roy (England), Colin Munro (New Zealand), Tim David (Singapore), Chris Jordan (England) and Hazratullah Zazai (Afghanistan) were the overseas players picked in the Platinum category in the draft for PSL 2022 conducted on December 12.
South Africa are scheduled to play three ODI matches against India with the first match commencing on January 19 in Paarl.
Meanwhile, the South African cricketers denied NOCs by CSA for PSL 7 2022 will kick off on January 27 and a total of 30 league matches will be played between six teams. The knockout stage will start on February 23 with the final to be played on February 27 in Lahore.

Mohammad Rizwan-led Multan Sultans are the defending champions of PSL 2021 as they defeated Peshawar Zalmi by 47 runs in the final in Abu Dhabi.
Multan Sultans will begin their title defensive campaign against Babar Azam’s Karachi Kings on January 27 in the PSL 7 opener at the National Stadium in Karachi.
This year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) has suffered a blow, as top South African centrally contracted players will not be playing the blockbuster T20 competition after they weren’t granted non-objection certificates (NOCs) by Cricket South Africa (CSA), due to international and domestic assignments.
CSA’s Director of cricket, Graeme Smith told ESPNcricinfo: “It is true that contracted members of the proteas team had their South African cricketers denied NOCs by CSA for PSL 7 for the Pakistan Super League, were refused due to the Proteas international schedule and domestic competitions which must always be prioritized.”
“With an away tour to New Zealand and a home tour against Bangladesh, our contracted players have to be available for their national team duties first and foremost. The same applies with regard to our domestic franchise tournaments which will be starting up soon,” Smith further told ESPNcricinfo.
He elaborated: “If and when opportunities in other international T20 tournaments arise and the timings and fixtures do not clash with our own, CSA will happily approve South African cricketers denied NOCs by CSA for PSL 7, as we have always done in the past.”
It is pertinent to mention that this policy from CSA does not apply to the players who were picked up in last month’s PSL draft, as players like Imran Tahir and Rilee Rossouw will play in the PSL 2022.
South African players weren’t picked in the recently-concluded PSL 2022 mini-draft over CSA’s refusal.
